Why Internships Matter
Internships play a critical role in building the next generation of development professionals while simultaneously strengthening the capacity of social impact organisations. Well-designed internships offer students and early-career individuals the opportunity to gain hands-on exposure, apply classroom learning to real-world contexts, and develop practical skills grounded in social realities.
For organisations, interns bring energy, curiosity, digital fluency, and research capacity, supporting program implementation, documentation, outreach, and innovation—while building a future-ready talent pipeline for the sector.
I-EMeRG serves as a facilitation space where organisations can share internship opportunities and where students and young professionals can discover placements aligned with their learning goals, skills, and interests in social development.

How It Works
Internship Opportunities Posted by Organisations
NGOs and social impact organisations post internship opportunities with clear details such as:
- Internship role and learning objectives
- Required or preferred skills
- Duration and expected time commitment
- Location (on-ground / hybrid / remote)
Whether the internship is paid, unpaid, or stipend-based (if applicable)
Intern Profiles Created by Applicants
Interns create a simple profile outlining their background and interests, enabling organisations to identify suitable candidates. Profiles typically include:
- Educational background
- Areas of interest (programs, research, communication, fieldwork, etc.)
- Skills (writing, data analysis, facilitation, design, documentation, etc.)
- Availability and preferred duration
- Mode preference (remote, hybrid, on-ground)
Matching & Application
Interns can browse available internship opportunities based on their interests, skills, and location. Applications go directly to the organisation offering the internship.
Organisations may also proactively reach out to interns registered on the platform.
Independent Engagement
Shortlisting, interviews, onboarding, mentoring, supervision, and certification (if any) are managed directly between the organisation and the intern.
I-EMeRG functions strictly as a facilitation and discovery platform. All recruitment, onboarding, supervision, and engagement responsibilities rest solely with the volunteer and the respective NGO. The platform functions as a connector and enabler, not as an intermediary.
